06th April, 2018 A ground-breaking ceremony to mark the commencement of the construction of a student’s dormitory for Montfort Technical Institute was held yesterday, 4th of April.
The construction is funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project with a grant amount of USD$87,831. The new dormitory will also have its own kitchen and bathroom facility.
Principal of Montfort, Brother Curzmecias Sebastian said the project will provide an accommodation facility for students from the outer islands.
The new student’s dormitory will be the first for Montfort since its establishment in 1996. It will be named as Bro. Josepth Kottoor Memorial Boys Hostel, in tribute to the first principal of the institute, who passed away early this year.
The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tonga H.E Mr. Tetsuya Ishii, and Mrs. Akiko Ishii and was blessed by His Eminence Soane Patita Paini Cardinal Mafi.
