25th June 2018 His Majesty King Tupou VI opened Ha’apai’s Agricultural Show 2018 on June 23 at Lea ‘a e Tohi field at Pangai, Ha’apai.
In his royal address, he said that he was happy that the people of Ha’apai worked together to prepare for the agricultural show as well as other occasions that will be carried out in the following weeks.
“We have passed the cyclone season, but that does not mean that we should ignore it and not be prepared. Preparation (tokateu) is an epigram, and every household in Ha’apai should be prepared in life to correspond with climate change.”
He urged the people of Ha’apai to support the international theme of food and agriculture to mitigate the challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters and to support the recovery of agriculture, livestock, fisheries, forestry and natural resources.
He said that he supported the Ministry of Fisheries Special Management Area (SMA) programme, and more islands can join the programme to ensure the multiplication and long-lasting of the living organisms in the ocean.
He also thanked the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry and the Ministry of Fisheries, women’s group and businesses for all the hard work demonstrated in this year’s show.
