8th November , 2018 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Tonga wishes to inform that Diplomatic Week for the second half of the year will commence from Monday 05 –Friday 09November 2018.
Diplomatic Week is a week during which newly appointed Ambassadors/ High Commissioners accredited to His Majesty’s Government shall present their Letters of Credence to his Majesty the King at the Royal Palace, Nuku’alofa. A letter of credence is a formal diplomatic letter that appoints a diplomat as Ambassador /High Commissioner to the Sovereign in formal ceremony which marks the beginning of the ambassadorships.
Nine (9) Heads of Missions are currently in Nuku’alofa for the Presentation of Credentials Ceremonies including:
- E. Mr.Fernado Curcio, Ambassador of Spain with residence in Wellington
- E. Ms Mira Simone Woldberg, Ambassador of Netherlands, with residence in Wellington
- E. Mr Andres Unga, Ambassador of Estonia with residence in Canberra
- E. Lars Backstrom, Ambassador of Finland with residence in Canberra
- E. Dr Abdul Malik, High Commissioner of Pakistan with residence in Wellington
- E. Mr Sujiro Seam , Ambassador of France with residence in Suva
- E. Mr Georgy Zuey, Ambassador of the Russian Federation with residence in Wellington
- E. Mr Rodrigo Espinosa, Ambassador of Chile with residence in Wellington
- E. Mr Sueng-bae Yeo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea with residence in Wellington
- During their first official visit to Tonga the Heads of Mission as per practice, shall meet the Prime Minster and the Minister for Foreign Affairs ,Hon ‘Akilisi Pohiva and the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mahe’uliuli Tupouniua.
