30th November 2018 The Police Drugs Enforcement Taskforce arrested a 33-year-old man from Pili from a Guest House at Kolofo’ou late last night at around 11:00 pm with illicit drugs, drugs paraphernalia and home brew.

The drugs seized by the Taskforce were 159.13 grams of cannabis packed ready for distribution and 0.34 grams of methamphetamine.

Police earlier yesterday received a report of two men allegedly selling drugs at the Tonga High School rugby compound. Police responded and arrested a 38-year-old man who escaped in his vehicle. Police chased and arrested him from his residence at Tofoa with 1 pack of cannabis (0.21 grams).

The other man suspected of selling drugs at the rugby school compound escaped in his vehicle but was stopped by Police. He was released after Police did not find any drugs while searching his vehicle. He was later arrested with the drugs from the Guest House at Kolofo’ou.

The Commander of the Central Police Station A/CSP Tevita Vailea says, “As demonstrated by this arrest, we continue to focus on capturing and prosecuting those responsible for the supply of these destructive drugs that cause harm to our youths, families and our community.”

Police will continue to work with the community to prevent the harm illicit drugs cause and the ongoing criminal activity associated with their use.

We encourage anyone who may have information about drug related offending to contact their nearest Police station, or ring 23417 or 922.

The suspects are in police custody while investigation continues.
