4th February,2019 The Government of Japan and the Ha’asini and Hamula Village Water Committee celebrated the completion of their Upgraded Water Supply System funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects, known as the GGP, on Wednesday 30 January 2019.
Mr. Yasuhiko Kamada, Acting Ambassador of Japan congratulated the completion of the project at a brief commissioning ceremony and reiterated that “water is a basic need and crucial to everyone.” He emphasized to the people of Ha’asini and Hamula village, to unite as one in maintaining the new water supply for the health of the community in many years to come.
Mr. Sione Ta’u Nisa, Representative of the Ha’asini and Hamula Water Committee thanked the people and Government of Japan for their support, committing the community to have access to water 24 hours. This project was formalized in December 2016, with a grant amount of USD$81,432 to fund the replacement of the main pipes, the installation of a 14 meter tank stand, and installation of a 5,000 gallon water tank.
Japan’s GGP was introduced in 1990 to respond directly to the basic human needs at the grass-roots level. The assistance epitomized Japan’s commitment to support efforts by the people and the Government of Tonga to ensure Human Security and continue to enrich the existing warm and close relations between the people and the Government of Japan and the people of the Kingdom of Tonga.
