08th July, 2019 Senior public servants from line ministries are participating in a two-day Capacity Building Training on Strengthening of Senior Public Servants on Gender and Development, at Tungi Colonnade.
The two-day event aims to explore how gender mainstreaming is essential to achieving efficient public service, and how gender issues are put at the center of board policy and programme decisions, institutional structures, and resource allocation.
The key focus of the training include the key concepts and processes in gender mainstreaming and gender analysis, application of gender mainstreaming to policy development and implementation, gathering appropriate data and consultations and the key gender issues in the workplace (GBV, sexual harassment).
High Commissioner of Tonga to the United Kingdom, HE Hon. Titilupe Fanetupouvava’u Kaho emphasized the work to be done to ensure accountable, transparent and responsible governance, in the application of law and order, to the management performance of the public service.
“Pacific Leaders have supported the integration of regional strategies, including those on gender, employment, education, trade, tourism, and environment. Tonga’s vision and priorities stand in alignment, in that our National Outcomes stipulated in the Tonga Strategic Development Framework, call for more inclusive, sustainable and empowering human development with gender equality.”
She said the work of Tonga’s High Commission in London is connected with the attempts made by relevant stakeholders and the Commonwealth Secretary towards the “development of our human potential” as it is critical for progress across all national outcomes, and supported by the list of Sustainable Development Goals.
“I am happy that innovative examples have taken place in order to advance gender equality, the most recent advancement of which we witness today with the launch of the Capacity Building Training on Strengthening of Senior Public Servants on Gender and Development.”
After the training, participants are expected to understand the key concepts of gender mainstreaming, processes and possible challenges, key gender issues that are affecting the service delivery of ministries and how to apply gender mainstreaming and strategize future actions in the workplace.
