13th June, 2020 The Government of Tonga wishes to clarify an article published by Matangi Tonga Online on June 12 titled ‘First 50 Tongans allowed home under CoViD-19 restrictions’.
The article stated that “Fifty Tongans who have been stranded overseas, will be repatriated from New Zealand next week on an Air New Zealand cargo plane.”
This article is not correct, there will be no repatriation flight next week.
A logistics and coordination drill, however, will be conducted on Tuesday next week to test emergency protocols, surveillance and communication systems as part of the preparation for border reopening.
