23rd October 2020 TONGAN During the period between July and September 2020, the price for fuel had increased from 1.1205 pa’anga per litre to 1.2433 pa’anga per litre. This increase in fuel prices during the quarter has resulted in an increase on our electricity tariff from the current electricity tariff of 61.02 seniti per kWh to 63.82 seniti per kWh and was approved by the Tonga Electricity Commission to be effective on the 1st of November 2020.
The increase of the electricity tariff from 61.02 seniti per kWh to 63.82 seniti per kWh was planned to be effective on the 1st of October, but due to the approval process taking longer than expected, the tariff increase was postponed and will be effective on the 1st of November 2020.
Electricity prices continue to be at record low levels due to the effects of COVID-19 on the global markets however the expected trend of oil prices, points toward a gradual increase.
The overall Power Generation from Renewable Energy (RE) Sources is only 14% of our total monthly power generation to which its impact on our prices is included in this tariff calculation.
