Announcement from the Tonga High Commission, Canberra

27th May, 2021 Her Royal Highness Princess Angelika Lätüfuipeka Tuku’aho the High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Tonga to the Commonwealth of Australia is pleased to invite Tonga Seasonal Workers Program SWP and the Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS) workers that are currently working here in Australia, former Employers, and individuals to submit any photos drawings, 3-5 minute videos, stories or ideas symbolising the success of the Seasonal Worker’s Program. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the year 2020 and 2021 have been challenging for Tonga, Australia, and the world. Nevertheless, the Seasonal Workers Program and the Pacific Labour Scheme has been rendered with an avenue of opportunities for Tongan workers and direct economic benefits to individuals and families. The Seasonal Workers Program and Pacific Labour Scheme contributed to ensuring economic growth for Tonga and Australia during this trying time.

The aim is:

  • To celebrate and share the blessing and success of the Seasonal Worker Program and Pacific Labour Scheme
  • To highlight the positive impact of the SWP/ PLS on individuals and countries (Tonga and Australia)
  • To commend the contribution of Farm owners/ Companies and Approved Employers and Tongan workers
  • To create awareness and Promote a better understanding of the SWP /PLs from a worker, farm owner / companies and approved employer’s perspective
  • To share and promote awareness of Capacity
  • To acknowledge the importance of the SWP/PLS to Tonga and Australia

How to join:

Every submission of a photo drawing or story is essential to Tonga High Commission and sharing it is what this invitation entails. The Tonga High Commission is looking for creativity, positive outlook, beneficial, inspiring, clear, productivity and cooperation to be reflected in your submission. Please share through your submission, your story and experiences with the Tonga high Commission in Canberra to be submitted before:

Thursday ,30th September 2021 by 5pm Canberra time.

For copyright purposes, the High Commission would appreciate it if the Participant can provide your first and last name, mail address, email, phone number and a little background explanation of your submission of about half an A4 page size long Participants should warrant or has obtained the necessary permission for the use of any submitted items.

Return Item:

Please do let the High Commission know should you wish to return your submission at the end of the exhibition.

Prize:

The High Commission will select best submission, which will be featured on Her Royal Highness the Princess Angelika Lätüfuipeka Tuku’aho the High Commissioner’s 2021 annual Christmas Card, in addition the best submission the top three will awarded the following: First Prize will be awarded AUD $3000.00 Second Prize will be awarded with AUD $2000.00, and the third Prize will be awarded with AUD $10000.00.

Furthermore, the top 20 submissions will be chosen and will be featured in Special exhibition later this year to mark the vital contribution of the Seasonal Worker’s Program to Tonga and Australia
