11th August, 2022 Tonga Police recognizes the efforts of its Personal Protection Officers (PPO) in alliance with Special Agents from the United States’ Diplomatic Security Service in assisting the United States dignitary, Deputy Secretary of State, Her Excellency Ms. Wendy Sherman in her official visit to the Kingdom of Tonga last week, 5th – 6th August 2022.
H.E. Ms. Sherman is the most senior official to have visited Tonga. Her visit commemorates 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Her Excellency’s visit was an opportunity for Tonga to discuss the US interests in establishing an Embassy in Tonga and learn more about the ongoing recovery efforts from the January volcano eruption and tsunami for which the US Government has provided over $2.6 million aid to Tonga.
Upon her arrival at the Fua’amotu International Airport, she and her officials were assisted by Tonga Police PPO to the Fua’amotu Domestic Airport where they boarded a flight to ‘Eua for a royal audience with HM King Tupou VI at the Heilala Tangitangi Royal Palace. The PPO successfully carried out their duty throughout the 2-day visit.
The Tonga Police Band is also acknowledged for their important role in providing the main entertainment during the Government of Tonga’s official reception, hosted by the Honourable Prime Minister Hu’akavameiliku at the Taufa’āhau Wharf on Friday evening, 5th August.
Tonga Police values its stakeholder relationships, and the recent visit by the US Deputy Secretary of State, provided the opportunity for Tonga Police to strengthen its relationship with the US Diplomatic Security Service.
