23rd February 2023 Tonga Power Limited (TPL) is pleased to announce that the technical issues that caused the unexpected failure of two out of its eight gensets have been resolved, and the company has successfully completed emergency load shedding operations which took place in the island of Tongatapu from Monday 13th February to Friday 17th February 2023.
TPL requires all eight gensets to be operational to meet the customer electricity demand, and due to the failure of the two gensets, the company had to implement load shedding measures to balance the supply of electricity with customer demand.
TPL worked tirelessly to restore the two gensets that had failed, and after successful repairs, the company was able to end the load shedding operations. The technical issues was resolved on Saturday 18th February, with all power gensets now fully operational.
TPL understands that load shedding can cause inconvenience to its customers and apologizes for any inconvenience caused. The measures were necessary to prevent a complete blackout and ensure that essential services such as hospitals, water supply, and communication services could continue to operate.
