26th October 2016 This morning, the Prime Minister Hon. Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva met with members of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Board of Directors to discuss the Government’s development priorities and Tonga’s partnership with the ADB.
During the meeting the Honourable Prime Minister congratulated the ADB on its 50th Anniversary, applauding the ADB’s assistance and role in addressing critical development challenges in Tonga and the region.
The courtesy call on the Prime Minister came on the opening of a 5-day visit of the ADB Board delegation visit to the Kingdom, from 25-29 October.
This evening, the Honourable Prime Minister will host the ADB delegation to a dinner on behalf of the Government of Tonga.
The ADB delegation is led by the ADB Director for the United States, Ms. Swati Dandekar and five other Alternative Directors – Mr. Joar Strand (Norway), Mr. Johannes Schneider (Switzerland), Mr. Masashi Tanabe (Japan),Mr. Sarafjon Sheraliev (Tajikistan) and Mr. Mario Di Maio (Alternate Director for Tonga and Pacific Islands).
