17th November 2016 Following the devastation caused by the earthquakes in New Zealand at the beginning of this week, the Lord Minister-in-Charge of the Government of Tonga, Lord Ma’afu has sent yesterday, 16 November 2016, a Letter of Condolences to the New Zealand Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. John Key, on behalf of the Government and People of Tonga.
In his letter, the Lord Minister-in-Charge said:
“It is with great sadness that we have received the news of the severe earthquakes that struck New Zealand earlier this week.
At such a difficult time, we feel for the families and communities in New Zealand, as your Government continues to re-stabilize a country, in deep shock.
On behalf of the Government and the people of Tonga, I wish to extend my sincerest condolences and sympathies to the Christchurch community, for the loss of lives and the destruction caused.”
