13th December 2016 Following the Regional Dialogue on (Intended) Nationally Determined Contributions, (I)NDCs for the Pacific Islands was a two days capacity-building workshop on the Measureable, Reportable and Verifiable (MRV)/Transparency Framework for the Pacific Islands, from the 8th – 9th December at the Tanoa International Hotel, Nadi Fiji.
The workshop was co-organized by the UNDP/UNEP Global Support Programme (GSP) for National Communications and Biennial Update Reports and by the Governments of Australia and Singapore.
The workshop was conceptualized to help countries in the Pacific region with tools, technical expertise and lessons learnt on the implementation of the national communications and biennial update reports, with a clear focus on building institutional arrangements to report greenhouse gases inventories, mitigation and adaptation actions in accordance with the relevant UNFCCC Guidelines.
Ms. Moala, National Climate Change Co-ordinator of Tonga’s Third National Communication on climate change stated that the workshop was a crucial learning opportunity where she gained an in-depth understanding of the international MRC framework, which will help her and her team with the final preparation of Tonga’s third national report that will be submitted next year.
Tonga was represented at the workshop by Ms. Lilu Kilisitina Moala and Miss. Akesiu Leua from the Department of Climate Change (MEIDECC) and Ms. Saane Lolo from the Ministry of Finance and National Planning.
