15th December 2016 Ms Susana Ma’ata Faletau of Fanga, Tongatapu, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer for Justice. Ms Faletau has been appointed effective from 16 December, 2016 for a term of four (4) years.
Ms Faletau holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) (1989) from the University of London. She was admitted to the Tongan Bar in February, 1996. Ms. Faletau is also a fully qualified and licensed Lawyer and Commissioner for Oaths in the Kingdom of Tonga.
Ms Faletau’s career in the public service began in 1993 when she was appointed as an Assistant Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office. Since then, she has taken over senior positions within the Public Service including Senior Assistant Secretary, Principal Assistant Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office and also at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She was later promoted to the position of Deputy Secretary and served at several Government Office such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister’s Office and also at the Ministry of Justice. Ms Faletau is not new to the Ministry of Justice, as she was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer for Justice on a three (3) years contract in 2012 until 2015.
