12th January, 2016 The Government of Japan’s, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, MEXT offers Scholarship for 2017 for “Teachers Training Students” to foreign teachers who wish to conduct research on school education at Japanese universities.
Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1982 and have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japanese Government, must be graduates of universities or teacher training schools and have worked as teachers at primary/secondary educational institutions or teachers training schools in their home countries for five years. In-service university faculty members are not eligible.
The Embassy of Japan in the Kingdom of Tonga will conduct the primary selection for the applicants following the outline below. Guidelines for qualifications and the details of the scholarship are available from the Embassy of Japan’s website at: http://www.ton.emb-japan.go.jp/itprtop_en/index.html
1.Application procedure
Application forms, scholarship guidelines and course guide are available from the Embassy of Japan Office in Nuku’alofa.
Applicants must submit the required documents to the Embassy of Japan during the period below. Please note the submitted documents will not be returned.

(2)Place: Embassy of Japan office at the 5th floor of National Reserve Bank of Tonga Building

*Medical Certificate is not required to submit at the point of application.
2. Primary selection
The Embassy of Japan will carry out the primary selection of applications by means of an interview, a written, a review of the submitted documents, with the schedule below;
(1)Written examination
Date: Friday, 10th March, 2017 from 9:00am to 12:20pm
(2) Subject
English: 9:00am – 10:00am
Japanese: 10:20am-12:20pm
(3) Place: Embassy of Japan conference room (Suite 2) a the 3rd floor of National Reserve Bank of Tonga Building
(2) Interview
Date: Friday, March 10th, 2017 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm
*Applicants will be informed of the time details at the beginning of the written examination.
Place: Embassy of Japan office at the 5th floor of National Reserve Bank of Tonga Building
(3) Notification of the results of primary selection
The Embassy of Japan will call the successful applicants of primary selection on Monday, 13th March, 2017 between 1:30pm and 4:30pm. The successful applicants of primary selection will be recommended by Embassy of Japan to MEXT for secondary selection.
3. Documents to be submitted after the primary selection
(1) Submission of Medical certificate (Original: 1, Copy: 1): The successful applicants of primary selection will be required to submit Medical certificate to the Embassy of Japan by the deadline below. Please note that the submitted documents will not be returned.

4. Secondary selection and Placement of university
(1) MEXT will carry out the secondary (final) selection of applicants based on the result of the primary selection conducted by the Embassy of Japan and select recipients of the scholarship.
(2) Results of the secondary selection will be notified on the date designated by the Embassy of Japan.
5. Notification of the selected applicants
(1) MEXT will accept applicants whose placement of universities was made as MEXT scholarship grantees.
(2) Applicants who have passed the primary screening conducted by the Embassy of Japan are not necessarily accepted as MEXT scholarship grantees. Those who are not accepted by any universities designated in their Placement Preference Form, will not be selected as MEXT scholarship grantees.
