Netsafe Inc and the Tongan Government signs MOU

19th May, 2017 Tonga’s Deputy Prime Minister Hon Siaosi Sovaleni and the Managing Director of Netsafe Inc Mr. Martin Cocker signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Auckland New Zealand on May 15, to establish and improve channels of communications between Netsafe Inc and Tonga’s Cyber Challenges Task Force (CCTF) and to increase mutual understanding of the operations and functions of the agencies are in a better position to meet the challenges and demands of a rapidly changing online services of government.

Netsafe Inc was established in 2001 to educate New Zealanders on  safe, secure and responsible use of information and communication technologies. Netsafe operates a website and toll-free helpline to provide ongoing help and information about cyber safety and security issues, including scams, spam malware, online harassment and bullying.

The Tonga’s CCTF was established by His Majesty’s Cabinet in December 2013. CCTF provides expertise from various partners and agencies to coordinate, monitor and evaluate mechanisms of cyber-attacks in Tonga.

After the signing ceremony, a brief round table discussions was held between the parties  on how cyber-attacks and online bullying can be prevented in Tonga. Hon. Sovaleni stated that the MOU is the beginning of the collaboration between Netsafe Inc. and the Government of Tonga to resolve online security issues.
