21st November, 2017 Following the celebration of the Mate Ma’a Tonga win over Lebanon on Saturday 18th November 2018, a 30 year-old woman was one of 4 passengers sitting on the fence of a van who sustained injury, when a group of men at Pea threw water into the vehicle causing her to lose control and fall to the road.
The woman was rushed to the hospital by a passing police patrol. It was later confirmed that the woman sustained a broken arm as a result of the fall.
“Passengers are meant to be in a vehicle not on it and we ask drivers to take responsibility and to look after their loved ones. If they fall off the bonnet, roof or from the back of a vehicle people will get injured or killed.”
Commissioner Caldwell says that law still applies during celebrations and there are limits to an individual’s enjoyment and not impeaching on others enjoyment. There are limits, including drink driving limits.
Enjoy yourselves but respect the law and respect each other.
Police made 28 arrests towards the end of the night in alcohol related offending.
