04th November 2020 A virtual weeklong workshop conducted by the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) for local IT technical engineers is currently underway.
The workshop aims to examine the elements involved in establishing and maintaining security for a network, and building an understanding and familiarity with the operations. Device and network infrastructure will also be examined in the training with a focus stabling robust, stable, and secure networks.
President of Tongan Women in ICT and MEIDECC’s Chief System Analyst Ms Seluvaia Kauvaka said training IT technical is of great value. “Their knowledge to network security increases every time there’s an upskill workshop available.”
She hoped that the workshop will help local IT personnel increase efficiency and solve issues faster.
The workshop covers different topics including Network security fundamentals, cryptography and PKI, device and infrastructure security, and virtual private networks and IPSec.
Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of network operations, Internet technologies, OSI reference model, and TCP/IP.
The participants are IT technical engineers from government ministries, NGOs, private sector public enterprises, network managers and operators, and security policymakers who are interested in network security and want to gain an understanding of the threats they face and how to mitigate such threats.
Network Security Workshop is an annual event hosted by APNIC for Pacific Island countries, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, this training is conducted virtually.
The workshop started on Monday, November 6, and will end on Friday this week.
