26th October, 2016 The Ministry of MEIDECC and the University of the South Pacific (USP) signed a contract to provide scholarships for 20 students at USP Campus Tonga this morning at MEIDECC’s headquarter.
The scholarship grants is part of the Climate Resilient Sector Project (CRSP) funded by the Asian Development Bank to help Tonga tackle the issues of climate change.
Representative from Asian Development Bank, Mr. David Fay said, “This is a very important start for the Climate Resilient Sector Project, the scholarship is strategically an important step and it is important that we develop capacity within the country. So thank you to USP and thank you to MEIDECC for advancing this important scholarship program.”
The scholarship offers opportunities to 20 candidates to undertake undergraduate studies in environmental science and marine science, followed by five post graduate diplomas and four Master Degree programmes.
The scholarship will be administered by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of MEIDECC, and the undergraduate scholarships are now available. Interested candidates are invited to apply.
Attending the signing ceremony were the CRSP Team members, representative from Ministry of Education Mr. ‘Isikeli Oko, representative from USP, Mr Mana Latu and an officer from the USP Scholarship Office Laucala Campus, Ms Linda Lal.
